EXPERIENCE THE FARM LIFE
Make Your Own Hand Brooms
Saturday November 4 ~ 12:30 - 3:30 pm Space is Limited Amy Lou Taylor, Broomsquire, is your instructor for the course. She comes from a artisanal and arts background where she was taught to make her own home crafts, or at the very least engage with tool makers who are experienced in their craft. She has made many creative pieces in the past, many brooms, walking sticks, wreaths, wheat weaving, jewelry and the like. The most satisfying by far for her is making brooms, hand-brooms and whisks. This is why she incorporated them into her business as they have long been a part of her own personal practices. When we craft our own tools, we can imbue them with our intention, our purpose and our needs. A turkey wing whisk for example, is a tool that is used in several different ways, from cleaning up crumbs, dust, shavings etc to moving energy, smoke, and air. It can be used as a fan for fanning fires and can also clean up cold ash. It’s a seemingly simple tool that has multiple uses. In this three hour class you will learn how to craft your own simple hand-broom and Turkey Wing whisk while learning some of the history behind the designs, and the uses of these versatile tools. By the end of the course, you will walk away with TWO, made by YOU hand-brooms. Your class fee includes all the supplies needed for the course. Please note that this will be a physical activity, so dress in comfortable clothing (like leggings, jeans or yoga pants), as well as wear soft soled shoes or be prepared to work barefoot. Amy will have. Ribbons and some other items you can use to decorate your brooms if you would like, but if you have something specific, bring it along and we can see if it can be added into your broom. |
